What is the history of NLCC MJ Miller?
NLCC MJ Miller was founded in 1964 by Mike Miller, who served as the original Corps Sponsor.
The unit began by parading at his home and lot in Richmond, BC, before moving to the Forum on Sea Island.
In 1975, the Corps found its permanent home at the Navy League Hall on River Road.
Sadly, Mike Miller passed away in 2007, followed by his wife Theonilla in 2015, leaving behind a rich legacy of service to the Navy League of Canada Cadet program. -
How often do Cadets meet?
Cadets typically meet once a week on Tuesday nights for training and activities.
Special events, competitions, and community service projects may require additional attendance throughout the year. -
Is there a cost to join Navy League Cadets?
There is small Administration Fee to join the program, but the cost is typically kept low to ensure accessibility to all families.
Fundraising efforts and community support help offset the costs of Uniforms, activities, and events. -
Do Cadets need to join the military after being in the Navy League of Cadets?
No!
Participation in the Navy League of Canada Cadets does not obligate youth to join the military.
The program is meant to introduce young people to maritime traditions and teach valuable life skills, not to recruit for the Canadian Armed Forces. -
